"Little Monsters" were celebrating everywhere last night, as their queen, Lady Gaga, was the big winner at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. Taking home eight trophies (of the record-breaking 13 she was nominated for), Gaga gushed as she accepted the night's biggest honor, video of the year, for "Bad Romance" from pop icon Cher.

"I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse," a teary Gaga told the crowd.  "I promised that if I won this tonight, I'd announce the name of my new record," she said, before revealing the title, Born This Way.

"God makes no mistakes," she sang. "I'm on the right track baby. I was born this way."

Hosted by Chelsea Handler, the VMAs were full of entertaining performances and guest spots by familiar faces like Lindsay Lohan and the cast of Jersey Shore.

MTV's biggest night kicked off with a performance by Eminem, who brought down the house when Rihanna joined him to perform their haunting hit, "Love the Way You Lie."

And viewers waited with bated breath to see what would happen when Kanye West took the stage, following last year's debacle when he hijacked Taylor Swift's acceptance speech. The controversial rapper closed the show with a self-chastising new tune. "Runaway" featured lyrics like ""You've been putting up with my s–– for way too long," while the chorus went, "Let's have a toast for the douchebags. Let's have a toast for the a------s. Let's have a toast for the scumbags. Let's have a toast for the jerk---s. Baby, I got a plan. Runaway fast as you can."

Swift sent her own, albeit less crass, message, as she performed a brand new song, presumably aimed at West. "It's all right, just wait and see," she sang after footage of her interrupted speech played on a monitor. "Your string of lights is still bright to me. You're still an innocent."
