It's not just Santa Claus who makes an annual list and checks it twice. Critics, pundits, and statisticians also love to tally up their favorites.
One reliably good source of this kind of pop-culture curation is Entertainment Weekly, which just released its Best and Worst of 2009 issue. The magazine divides its list into TV, Music, Movies, Books, and more. Most compelling, though, is their list of Entertainers of the Year. Let's have a look, shall we?
It's notable that Sandra Bullock appears first in the Entertainer of The Year rundown. She just received two Golden Globe nominations, and, as EW notes, she "smashed career-best records right and left" with her top-grossing films The Blind Side and The Proposal.
Not far down on the list is Lady Gaga. Her (literally) smashing AMAs performance may have been upstaged by the Glambert controversy, but her five top 10 singles (thanks, EW, for the handy tally!) spoke volumes.
Speaking of Adam Lambert, he's an EW Entertainer of the Year, too. He may not have been the official American Idol winner, but you sure don't see Kris Allen making national headlines for a week straight. And while some of the attention may be due to Lambert's sexuality, he's not hiding anything: "I am flamboyant. I am gay," he says in the Best and Worst article. "And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that."
Elsewhere on the list: the cast of True Blood, Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, Taylor Swift, Ryan Reynolds, the cast of Modern Family, James Cameron, the Black Eyed Peas, Glee supervillan Jane Lynch, Mo'Nique, Woody Harrelson and the cast of Dexter.
