As they approach their fourth wedding anniversary, Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian's marriage has weathered infertility problems and cheating rumors. Little did we know that they've been dealing with another issue -- one that's actually life-threatening.
Both People and TMZ are reporting that Odom, who plays for the Los Angeles Clippers, is battling a serious drug addiction. He has allegedly been using "hardcore recreational drugs" for the past two years. Why is this just coming out now? According to TMZ, Lamar has gone missing after the Kardashians tried, and failed, to stage an intervention.
Odom's whereabouts, and whether he's actually missing, haven't been confirmed. (The Huffington Post spoke to a source that denied he's missing.) What does seem clear is that Odom has a big problem, which he's somehow managed to keep from the camera crews that follow his wife everywhere.
"It's a really hard time for Khloe," says People's source. "She's kept this secret for almost two years trying to save Lamar and their marriage."
Kardashian and Odom haven't been seen in public together since June 2, leading to rumors that their relationship was on the rocks. In July, Star published a report that Odom was having an affair; a second alleged mistress came forward in August. However, it's now looking like the major problem in their marriage isn't infidelity at all.
"Whatever they're going through in their relationship is taking a back seat to getting him better, I can tell you that," says another People source.
Odom's drug of choice is reportedly crack cocaine. TMZ reports that he went to rehab last August to get the issue under control, but started using again as soon as basketball season ended in April.
"Lamar genuinely doesn't think he has a problem -- it's all 'work hard then party hard' with him until it goes off the rails," a friend of Odom's told People. "[Khloe and Lamar] really do love each other. But she really feels that this problem is out of control, and she's hurt that he won't get help."
The problem has reportedly gotten bad enough for Kardashian to stage an intervention. When it failed, she reportedly kicked him out of the house. (As evidence, TMZ points to paparazzi photos of Odom and a friend putting bags in his car on Wednesday.)
The Kardashians haven't commented on the drug allegations, and Odom's rep has said only that he's not missing. Kardashian did, however, send out an angry, NSFW tweet on Sunday.
We sincerely hope that Odom comes out of hiding and accepts the help that he needs.
