This week, Lamar Odom's estranged father stepped into the media circus currently surrounding the NBA star. Weighing in on Odom's continuing battle with drug addiction, Joe Odom pointed a finger at his son's wife, Khloe Kardashian, and her family. "They brought him down," the elder Odom told Radar Online. "He would be better off without them. Let him go and get his life together. I think the best thing for him would be to have a clean break, divorce Khloe and as a single man try and get his life back together.”
These comments provoked a powerful response from Odom, who returned to Twitter after a long absence to respond to them.
It's hard to know what to think of Odom's remarks in light of his current circumstances. No doubt these last few months have been a horrible time for the pro basketball/reality star, who has been dealing with the fall-out from the suddenly public news of his alleged drug addiction and reported marital infidelities.
On the other hand, some might say "not dealing with it" is a better description. After Kardashian and her family staged a failed intervention, he remained in rehab for less than a day, then briefly went missing. He's been avoiding treatment -- and living separately from his wife -- ever since.
Odom's defense of the Kardashian clan is particularly interesting in the aftermath of Kris Jenner's alleged desire to push Odom away. "She thinks [Lamar] is bad news and that Khloe can do much better," a source told The Hollywood Gossip three weeks ago. "He has absolutely nothing to offer her or the family. He isn't officially signed with any team."
Truth is, his free agent status is the least of Odom's problems. And we hope this tweet is a sign that he's focusing on what really matters right now.
