Reality TV star, fashion designer and New York Times bestselling author (she just snagged another three-book deal!) Lauren Conrad appears on the cover of May's Allure magazine, and opens up about her life as a businesswoman, her thoughts on reality TV and her feelings about her looks -- which might not be what you expect! She says, honestly, "I'm not a sexy person. I'm OK with it. I've never been the sexy girl. Whenever I've had a boyfriend, he's always been like, 'Oh, you're cute.'"
Her fans may disagree, but Conrad seems comfortable with who she is, and doesn't seem in danger of following in the footsteps of her The Hills costar Heidi Montag, who has been rendered virtually unrecognizable by a notorious string of plastic surgery procedures (including 10 in one day!) "I saw People magazine just like everybody else," Conrad says of Montag's transformation. "I don't think this is a happy story at all. There's just no right answer there."
Conrad knows firsthand the struggles of always being in the public eye and tells Allure some of her strategies: "If I'm shopping and I see paparazzi, my bag goes directly to my thighs." While many reality TV stars seem to tailspin, Conrad, by contrast, has soared. She speaks to Allure of her experience as a teenager on Laguna Beach, saying, "I was 17 when I signed on... and that's a vulnerable age anyway. I was still figuring out who I was. To be on television and told a million things that are wrong with you was hard, but I very quickly decided that I just had to be me. I watched people change everything about themselves, and they still weren't happy."
"Sexy" or no, Conrad appears to have a very good head on her shoulders, and has admirably kept her wits about her through the ups and downs of stardom. We look forward to seeing what she does next.
