Let's say you're the teenage daughter of a famous actor, and you want to be a star in your own right. You could do things the traditional way: audition for roles and pay your dues in bit parts. You could go the nepotism route and work your family's connections. You could even name-drop your way onto a reality show. But if all those options take too long, you could go to extremes -- releasing your own sex tape. And that's exactly what Laurence Fishburne's daughter, 19-year-old Montana Fishburne, has done.
The younger of Laurence Fishburne's two children from his first marriage (he also has a toddler with current wife Gina Torres), Montana is starring in a new pornographic film. The beautiful teen says she hopes to use porn as a shortcut to fame... like a certain reality-show star. "I've watched how successful Kim Kardashian became and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sex tape," Fishburne tells the press.
As for her dad, he hasn't commented publicly, but his daughter -- whose name in the film's credits is "Chippy D" -- tells TMZ, "[My dad] is very upset. I heard that he's mad at me but I haven't spoken to him yet. I feel pretty confident that I can work things out with him." She also insists, "I think he wants to support me in everything I do, and though he sees this now as a negative, I believe in time he will view it as a positive." The wannabe-star is certainly endowed with plenty of optimism!
Unlike Kim Kardashian (not to mention Paris Hilton, Kendra Wilkinson, Pamela Anderson and Danielle Staub), Fishburne isn't claiming that her sex tape was stolen and publicized against her will. Even though some of the aforementioned ladies profited from the sale of their tapes, they stuck to the claim that the tapes were never intended for public viewing -- and calling them private made them way more fascinating for voyeurs, while encouraging the rest of us to think of those celebs as good girls with a naughty side (not porn stars).
But Montana seems to have missed that memo. She's proudly taking ownership of the film -- which, judging from the stills, isn't a "sex tape" as we know it, but a regular adult film. In other words: she's launching her porn career by cleverly referring to it as a sex tape. Maybe she actually hopes to move into a legitimate film and TV career. But wouldn't a stint on Dancing With the Stars be a more fruitful path to fame than a porno? Either Fishburne has a really crappy manager, or she's just trying to make a name for herself in porn -- and succeeding.
And whatever the 19-year-old's motivation, Montana's father, 49, is now (without his consent) the major selling point for this soon-to-be-notorious XXX movie; the poster calls her "an A-list daughter" and emphasizes her last name. We have no idea what the Matrix star's relationship with Montana is like. But there are better ways to exploit a parent's fame than doing porn. Jamie Lee Curtis (daughter of Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh) started out in horror films; Carrie Fisher tread the boards with her mother, Debbie Reynolds, on Broadway before achieving Star Wars fame; Eclipse star Bryce Dallas Howard started as an extra in movies directed by her dad, Ron Howard. Many actresses have gained experience and connections via their famous family. Maybe the issue is that Montana Fishburne doesn't crave respect among fimmakers, or a showcase for her acting talent -- but pure, straight-up fame for fame's sake. After all, isn't that what Kim Kardashian's "career" is all about?
