Exclusive Blog: 'Law & Order: SVU' Celebrates 250th Episode

Executive producer Neal Baer reflects on SVU's past 11 seasons and looks ahead to exciting new episodes

SVU
is back for Season 12 with shows you won't easily forget. We've always been the storytellers you can turn to for "hot-button" topics -- fetal alcohol syndrome, teen access to abortion, home schooling, obesity, teen alcohol and drug abuse. We tell stories about some of the most controversial issues of our times so that viewers can examine the issues for themselves and decide where they stand. This year is no different. We'll be presenting an episode on Sept. 29 that asks why there is a backlog of unopened rape kits across the country. You'll also see Jennifer Love Hewitt in that episode give a performance of a lifetime. We'll look at the relationship between alcohol consumption on college campuses and date rape and we'll pose tough questions that college campuses around the country should consider.

I'm thrilled to be able to write about the issues I've been passionate about for the past eleven years and look forward to discussing in future blogs how we choose topics to explore. And I'll also provide you with links for more information. I know that when I'm inspired by a book or TV show that I often wish I had a link right away to satisfy my new thirst. We'll give you ways you can make a difference after you see one of our shows.

It's with deep gratitude that I thank you for watching SVU and I look forward to giving you not only the issues you care about but the twists and turns we're famous for. Please tune in on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 9 p.m. for a special two-hour double dose of new episodes (including our 250th episode!). And stay tuned for some unforgettable performances by our stars Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni as well as Joan Cusack, Henry Ian Cusick (Lost), Maria Bello, Paula Patton, Gloria Reuben, Rosemary Harris, David Krumholtz, David Alan Grier, Marcia Gay Harden and Jennifer Love Hewitt. SVU is back with a vengeance!
