LeAnn Rimes Opens Up to Katie Couric About "Starting Over"

"No one can quite understand why you hurt so badly," admitted the emotional singer during her sitdown on Katie

LeAnn Rimes isn't embarrassed that she sought treatment for stress and anxiety. Just weeks after completing a voluntary 30-day rehabilitation program, the country star is opening up about how the experience has changed her life. Rimes spoke candidly about her emotional breakdown and recovery in two new interviews with Katie Couric: one for the daytime chat show Katie, the other for a special "All Access Nashville" edition of 20/20. (Watch a preview below!)

"I feel like I am starting over even though I’ve had all these years behind me," Rimes told Couric. "How many people get to (start) over again in this day and age?"

Earlier this month, Rimes told the Boston Herald that social media bullying was a factor in her checking into rehab.

"I think it’s really hard to deal with Twitter and Facebook and all these social media outlets," she explained. "And it’s hard to take it day after day of reading and seeing things that someone you don’t even know says about you. As much as you said you don’t want it to penetrate, it does, because you’re human."

During her sit-down with Couric, the singer said that she felt totally alone in her pain.

"People look at you and go why are you struggling?" said a teary-eyed Rimes. "No one can quite understand why you hurt so badly."

The singer-actress has also suggested that she'll be more open with her fans going forward, telling the Herald, "I have felt like I’ve had a piece of tape over my mouth the last four years. I wanted to start the next 30 years of my life on a great foot."

But it seems like that commitment is not sitting too well with Brandi Glanville, who was married to Eddie Cibrian before he left her for Rimes four years ago. (Rimes was also married at the time, to Dean Sheremet.) LeAnn is now the stepmother of Brandi's sons, and Brandi said in August that she supported LeAnn's decision to enter rehab. At the moment, however, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star and the country singer aren't getting along.

"Right now it's not amazing," Glanville told Ok! magazine on Sunday, when asked about her relationship with Rimes. "I'm just saying… and I'll leave it at that."

Rimes' Katie interview will air on Thursday, and her 20/20 interview airs on Friday at 9 p.m. EST. She also has a new single, "What Have I Done," dropping in December.
