Whether you love her or hate her, you probably have some sort of an opinion on Lena Dunham. (Howard Stern certainly does!)
The Girls star/writer/director/executive producer recently won a Golden Globe for her performance on the HBO series -- but that news has been slightly overshadowed by some nasty comments shock-jock Howard Stern made about her body. After he apologized, Dunham decided to call in to his SiriusXM Radio show on Jan. 16 to clear the air.
Prior to the Globes, Stern went on a mini-rant about Girls, saying, "It's a little fat girl who kinda looks like Jonah Hill and she keeps taking her clothes off and it kind of feels like rape...I learned that this little fat chick writes the show and directs the show and that makes sense to me because she's such a camera hog that the other characters barely are on."
He concluded, "Good for her. It's hard for little fat chicks to get anything going."
After the media criticized Stern, 59, for his harsh words, he came out and apologized to Dunham on his show. "I felt bad because I really do love the show Girls and enjoy it, and I admire the girl who writes it," he said.
And he got his chance to apologize directly to Dunahm when she called in to his show Wednesday night.
"I don't even know where to begin with all of this," Stern said. "The reason I felt so awful was because when Perez Hilton wrote his article, he told half the story. ...I started to compare you to Woody Allen ... the whole thing came together for me. ... I guess I just wanted to tell you I love you and I think you're terrific."
So what did 26-year-old Dunham have to say about his insults? Well for one, she didn't like being compared to Jonah Hill.
"I'm not that fat, Howard," Dunham said. "I don't mean to take major issue with you about this. I'm not super thin, but I'm thin for, like, Detroit."
When he admitted that "you're not obese or anything," Dunham seemed to take that as a win. "Thank you. Another thing for my gravestone," she said with a laugh. "Howard Stern says, 'You're not obese or anything.'"
It seems Dunham may be willing to accept Stern's apology, but our readers might not be so forgiving! On Monday, we asked you whose side were on in this celebrity feud. A whopping 82 percent sided with Lena -- and we couldn't agree with you more.
Stern clearly seemed out to get press in this situation. We just wish the public and media would come to terms with the fact that Lena Dunham isn't super skinny and give the body talk a rest. She's had an amazing success story, and that's something that should be celebrated. And if you don't like seeing her naked on TV, then just change the channel!
