'Les Miserables' (Dec. 25)

Short Story:
In this film adaptation of the famed stage musical, the 1832 June Rebellion in Paris plays out on the silver screen. Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), previously imprisoned for stealing bread, breaks his parole and attempts to flee from Inspector Javert (Russell Crowe), a policeman who has tried to capture Valjean for years. Along the way, Valjean's story becomes intertwined with many others, including factory worker Fantine (Anne Hathaway) and her daughter Cosette (played as an adult by Amanda Seyfried).

What They're Saying:
"The pieces of the puzzle often feel like they are awkwardly fighting for dominance. Occasionally, they converge so perfectly that Les Miserables, perhaps permanently, reforms the genre into something both elevated and authentic." -- IGN

Good for Kids?
Les Miserables is sure to be a visual spectacle for all ages. But with a story that Common Sense Media says features "poverty, prostitution, imprisonment, corruption, battles and death," it may not be suitable for the youngest viewers.
