Best App for: Learning to write letters and numbers
While LetterSchool teaches kids to write the alphabet and numbers with traditional handwriting instruction, it's anything but ordinary. As they write on the screen, kids watch their tracings turn into candy, rope lights, caterpillars, race cars, rockets and more. The app has a big "wow factor" with sound effects, music, animation and graphics, but there's also a section for practicing handwriting without the fanfare. When they've mastered their letters, try Write My Name by Injini for iPad, an app that helps with reading sight words and learning vocabulary. There's also Chalk Walk, an app that helps little kids work on the pincer grip needed for holding a pencil.
