Who said anything about a mid-summer heat wave? On tonight’s My Life on the D-List, Bristol Palin’s baby daddy, Levi Johnston welcomes Kathy Griffin to chilly Alaska, furthering the absurd (often absurdly hilarious) pretense that the two are a couple. Talk about a cougar! The almost 50-year-old comedian (nearly 30 years older than her alleged "boyfriend") continues to enjoy stirring up fake headlines about a love connection.
In tonight’s episode (10 p.m. ET on Bravo), catty Kathy mocks former governor Sarah Palin -- Levi’s one-time would-be mother-in-law -- during an Anchorage stand-up performance, before which Griffin famously invited the 2008 vice-presidential candidate to attend by leaving a note at the Palin home.
Fans laugh and critics cringe about the Levi-Kathy alliance, but you gotta admit, it's very strategic. After all, Johnston’s been trash-talking the Palins for months, and has tried developing his own reality show;recently, he reportedly decided to reconcile with ex-girlfriend Bristol for the sake of their 1-year-old son, Tripp. And of course, there’s that whole Playgirl photo shoot. Far be it from us to call him a media whore, but... okay, that's exactly what he is.
Meanwhile, Griffin's motto is to embrace that label and ride it all the way to fame and fortune! TV makes for strange bedfellows (The Surreal Life, anyone?), but certainly, the two might be kindred spirits with a friendship that's more than a staged photo op. Maybe the "relationship" is just written into both their contracts. But Griffin's math probably goes something like this: two D-Listers add up to a B-list couple, in terms of generating press. Add in a little ice-fishing, and you've got a bizarre "romance" that might just make for great ratings.
