Levi Johnston, 20, may be ready to settle down with Bristol Palin -- but he's not ready to leave the spotlight behind. Less than two weeks after the couple announced their re-engagement (which, as far as we know, Sarah Palin has yet to approve), Johnston's camp has announced that he'll be appearing in an upcoming R&B video. And here's the kicker: Johnston, 20, will play "a lover whose romance is thwarted by his girlfriend's disapproving mother." Now there's a stretch.
The director of the video, which will promote Minneapolis singer-songwriter Brittani Senser's single "After Love," says he "kind of riffed on the real-life situation" when coming up with the concept. (No word on whether the "mom" in the video will sport an American flag brooch and Tina Fey glasses.) But according to Johnston's lawyer, Levi is considering this a serious acting challenge....and possibly, the start of a new career.
"He's looking forward to doing it," Johnston's rep tells the press. "It will give him an opportunity to act a little bit in front of a camera. He's done a commercial before, but something like this is a little more involved." (We should say so -- that commercial was all of 19 seconds long, and all Johnston did was eat a pistachio.) But according to Johnston's attorney, Levi may pursue even more acting gigs -- as long as Bristol approves, of course.
"He's got to merge his perspective with that of his prospective wife," the rep says. "In other words, this is not a decision he's going to be making alone."
If true, it seems odd that Bristol would approve of Johnston doing this particular role -- one that seems likely to further alienate his future mother-in-law. When Bristol tried her own hand at acting, she did it for a good cause, talking about teen pregnancy on The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Judging from his recent appearance on Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, Johnston has an appealing, if somewhat dopey, screen presence. Indeed, he probably won't have to master any dialogue in a music video, and that may make it a perfect showcase for someone just testing the "acting" waters.
But clearly, he's still exploiting his own personal drama to get ahead in the fame game. And it sounds like he's not about to stop: although Bristol's reps have denied it, rumors that Johnston is pursuing his own reality show just don't quit. According to E!, two different shows are "rumored to be in the works": one that focuses on his life with Bristol and son Tripp, and the other about hunting and fishing with his hometown buddies. On the plus side, either of those shows would allow Levi to stay in Wasilla, Alaska -- so maybe that's his idea of being a family man.
