Earlier today a suspicious tweet from @LeviJohnston05 started making the rounds. It read: "I GUESS THE SECRET GOT OUT ALREADY - YES I WILL BE COMING OUT WITH MY OWN BOXER/BRIEF LINE ...CONFIRMED !"
Gasp! Underwear from a soon-to-be Playgirl model? Naturally, our first inclination was to search for more information on this major news story, but it seems something is fishy here. First of all, the Tweet is no longer on the former almost-in-law-of-Sarah-Palin's Twitter page.
Second, we searched Valebrity.com -- a site that makes a business of confirming and validating the many celebrity Twitter identities out there. No dice. There's no such validated page in their database.
Then we came across a TMZ story that made Levi's designer underpatns seem even less likely. The story refers to Johnston's Twitter account as "fake." Hrumph.
Apparently the Twitterings of @LeviJohnston05 came to the attention of Levi's lawyer after William Shatner performed a dramatic reading of the tweets on The Tonight Show Wednesday night.
Sadly, the lawyer says it's not his client who's twittering there, and he's taking action.
"We are in the process of dealing with Twitter first. I think they have an obligation once something like this happens to make some kind of corrective measure."
The lawyer is taking issue with Conan O'Brien's introduction to the tweets, calling them: "all real ... we did not make these up."
Clearly Johnston and his lawyer haven't seen Conan's popular "Twitter Tracker" feature, which is very obviously fictionalized celebrity Twitter updates, all in the name of good humor.
