For the last several months, Miley Cyrus' publicity machine has been firing on all cylinders. She's so omnipresent, some people might think of Liam Hemsworth as "that guy who used to be engaged to Miley."
But the Australian actor has just embarked on the promo tour for the second installment of The Hunger Games, reminding fans that he's famous in his own right. And in his first talk show appearance since his split with Cyrus, on The Tonight Show, Jay Leno didn't even ask about the twerking pop star. Ostensibly, Hemsworth's publicist must have told him not to.
Hemsworth (and/or his handlers) clearly wished to keep the interview out of the gossip gutter, and Leno is known among talk show interviewers as a guy who's willing to throw soft pitches over the plate. The closest he came to the subject of relationships was when he asked if Hemsworth would like to have kids one day, noting that "he could probably find some volunteers" in the audience to be his baby mama. Hemsworth, who's rumored to be dating 23-year-old Mexican actress Eiza Gonzalez, just smiled awkwardly. Watch here:
Hemsworth's all-business approach to his latest talk show appearance is a counterpoint to Cyrus' no-holds-barred conversation on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last month. Obviously her handlers hadn't set any parameters beforehand, and DeGeneres naturally kicked their conversation off with the subject of her breakup. (Granted, Cyrus had set herself up for this discussion when she allowed DeGeneres to throw her an impromptu bachelorette party during her last visit to the show.) Watch here:
Fact is, each of these stars will have to make his/her own way through the post-breakup tabloid jungle. At least they're not slinging mud at each other!
