Lifetime Is Taking on 'Flowers in the Attic': Will It Finally Be the Version Fans Have Been Waiting For?

The cult favorite is coming back and this time on the small screen -- will it live up to expectations?

Here's a blast from the past: Remember Flowers in the Attic -- V.C. Andrews' 1987 best-selling novel about four siblings who were locked up in their grandmother's attic and left to starve to death?

Well, get ready to relive the madness: Lifetime is bringing it to TV movie life -- and fans all over Twitter and Facebook were flipping out over the news. And it's no surprise being how beloved the book series was and no matter how bad the original film, it became a cult favorite.

Heather Graham is set to play the psycho mom who leaves her kids in the house with their religious and deranged grandmother (who will be played by Ellen Burstyn). No word yet on who will portray the siblings.

Lovers of the books should have no trouble recalling Chris and Cathy -- the older brother-sister duo who fall in love and have sex -- this forbidden topic of incest was what sucked people into the story. Then there's Cory and Carrie, the young twins, who end up suffering the most in the attic. These books were dark and creepy -- and Lifetime has a big job ahead of them.

But fans couldn't be more excited to finally be getting a new movie, which Vulture calls "exactly what everyone has been hoping for for many, many years."

How will Lifetime handle the brother-sister closeness? Hopefully not like the 1987 big-screen attempt to tackle the same material. Critics pointed out that that movie failed to adequately capture the tale's psychological horror. The Washington Post called it "slow, stiff, stupid and senseless."

Not to mention, they dropped the incest storyline. That's the whole point of Flowers in the Attic!" cried Vulture. "Somehow the terrible 1987 movie skipped over that part." Check out the trailer for that version below:

Hopefully will Lifetime will surprise us all -- and not let this be just another Liz & Dick.
