So, in case you're having trouble keeping track of Lindsay Lohan's legal troubles, she's currently out on bail after being arrested for failing a court-ordered drug test. On Oct. 22, she has a probation violation hearing, which will determine whether she gets more jail time. In the meantime, according to a report in People, Lohan plans to voluntarily check herself into rehab.
"She will step up her treatment and do more than what she was previously ordered to do," says the magazine's source, who predicts that the actress will enter rehab within the week.
Is anybody else getting deja vu here? It's not just that Lohan, 24, has already been to rehab four times. It's more the fact that back in July, the last time Lohan was facing a jail sentence, she checked herself into rehab to prove she was serious about recovery. Is this yet another ploy to avoid jail?
Even if she's only doing it to impress the judge, checking into rehab is a smart move for Lohan. For one thing, she's not allowed to do much else; the court has prohibited her from entering bars, or anyplace where "users or buyers congregate." And that SCRAM bracelet is back on her ankle, just in case she slips up again.
More importantly, Lindsay needs to prove that she takes the rehabilitation process seriously, now that she's failed two separate court-ordered drug tests (one for cocaine, one for amphetamines). This kind of relapse is not unusual for drug addicts, but with all of Lohan's past insistence that she's not an addict, she set herself up for a fall.
It's become increasingly clear that Lohan's addiction is a monster she can't control. As if to drive the point home, the U.K. tabloid News of the World printed a scandalous series of photos on Sunday, showing Lohan circa 2007 with a syringe and a tourniquet around her arm. Scary stuff. (She's also making out with Paris Hilton in one of the pics, but in the grand scheme of things, that's less horrifying than shooting heroin.)
Lohan told fans via Twitter last week that she was "ready to take responsibility for my actions and... prepared to face the consequences." Now all she has to do is make us believe it. If she can stay in rehab until her hearing on Oct. 22, that would be an excellent start.
