Classify this news under "stuff we hope isn't true." Not even two weeks after she finally completed probation, Lindsay Lohan is being accused of assaulting someone at a nightclub. On Saturday, a woman filed an incident report claiming that Lohan shoved her at a West Hollywood nightclub on April 5. The complaint is being investigated by the sheriff's office, and if it has merit, the starlet could be charged with battery.
But is Lohan really the troublemaker here -- or is she just a victim of someone trying to exploit her reputation? You can imagine what her publicist had to say.
"This is just another instance of somebody making up a story to either get money, 15 minutes of fame or a little bit of both," Lindsay's rep told E! News. "There is no truth to the accusations."
Lohan has another defender in the gossip site Radar Online, which claims that the entire incident report is a bald-faced lie.
"Lindsay absolutely wasn't even at The Standard (Hotel) on Thursday night," a source tells the website. "This entire debacle was completely fabricated and the allegations are totally bogus. Lindsay's attorneys are LIVID, and when it's proven that this girl made up these allegations, her a** is grass." (So eloquently put, source.)
Let's hope for Lindsay's sake that she wasn't anywhere near that hotel. Even though her 2007 DUI probation has finally ended, she's still on "informal probation" for her 2011 necklace theft -- meaning that any violations of the law could send her back to jail for up to 245 days.
This isn't the only accusation that's been made against Lohan in recent weeks. In mid-March, she was accused of a hit and run outside another Hollywood nightclub, The Hookah Lounge. (Her rep said that this didn't happen either.)
We don't know if Lindsay is guilty in either or both of these cases. But this is a critical time for the actress, who is finally returning to work, playing Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime movie Liz & Dick and playing herself on an upcoming episde of Glee. The best thing she can do right now is lay low and concentrate on work. And if she doesn't want people to accuse her of misbehaving at nightclubs, then there's one simple solution: Stay away from nightclubs. Given that she's sober now, that shouldn't be that hard... right?
