Lindsay Lohan is in trouble again, and she's accused of trying to bribe her way out. On Friday afternoon, Lohan, 25, visited the emergency room after her rented black Porsche rear-ended an 18-wheeler on the Pacific Coast Highway in Los Angeles. Lohan and her assistant Gavin reportedly sustained some bruises, which is unsurprising, considering that the car she was driving was totaled.
The actress claimed that the accident happened because the truck cut her off. However, the truck driver has a different story. He claims that Lindsay was speeding behind him, and that multiple witnesses can testify that she was "flying on the freeway" while he was only going 40 miles an hour.
More shockingly, the driver, whose name is James, says that Lohan tried to flee the scene of the crime -- and then attempted to bribe him into silence.
James told TMZ that after his truck was hit, Lohan (whom he didn't recognize) immediately got into a Cadillac Escalade that had been driving behind her and attempted to drive away. James got on the phone with 911, which is when the Escalade driver offered to "go to the bank" and take out some cash to keep him quiet.
"Him and (Lindsay's assistant) took me across the street and told me this was some kind of famous person and they didn't want to be in the media," James says in a TMZ video. "But I'd already called 911 because they were trying to get away from the scene."
Another curious detail mentioned by James: After Lindsay left the Porsche, her assistant stuffed some things into a pink bag. Though he didn't see the contents of the bag (except for some clothes), James claims that the Escalade driver urged him not to "mention the bag to the cops."
Lohan's rep has denied the driver's story, saying that Lohan "cooperated fully with law enforcement" and that James is just trying to make a quick buck.
"It seems to me once he realized he wasn't going to get anything from Lindsay he decided to get cash by telling tales to the tabloids," Lohan's rep told People. "I hope he got whatever money he was looking for. Personally, all I care about is that Lindsay and Gavin are okay."
Following the accident, Lohan returned to work on set of the Lifetime movie Liz & Dick, where she was headed when the crash occurred. According to TMZ, the actress is now telling people that she slammed into the truck because her brakes failed. We can't even imagine what this will do to her insurance premiums...
