Fans of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon (weeknights at 12:35 p.m. ET on NBC) have seen a long line of celebrity guests take part in Fallon's bizarre comedy segment, "Let Us Play With Your Look." But on Wednesday night's show, the part of the bugged-out, platinum-wig-wearing "stylist" was played by a surprise guest: Lindsay Lohan. Watch the clip here:
Weird? Yes. But that's the nature of this skit, and Anne Hathaway, Maya Rudolph, Zach Galifianakis, Alec Baldwin and Sarah Silverman have all donned the shiny white outfit to "style" an audience member's hair (always in a ridiculous fashion). Here's what's interesting: This nonspeaking appearance is one of Lohan's first talk show visits since hiring a new public relations team, the high-powered firm, Rogers & Cowan.
For months now, nearly all of the news on Lohan has focused on her tempestuous personal life, from her multiple brushes with the law, to substance abuse, to clashes with family members. There have also been reports of unprofessional behavior on movie sets, including her latest, the upcoming TV movie, Liz & Dick (airing on Nov. 25th at 9 p.m. ET on Lifetime). Her new handlers are clearly aiming to change that narrative, refocusing the public on their new client's acting ability.
The strategy is obvious: steer clear of intrusive, personal questions from journalists like Barbara Walters, and opt instead for interviewers who will stick to work-related topics.
It's tough to imagine any serious journalists agreeing not to ask Lohan about the subjects that most intrigue the public, but the flaks at Rogers & Cowan could probably twist some arms. In the meantime, a goofy, silent spot in a Jimmy Fallon sketch is a perfect way for Lohan to show up, put a smile on fans' faces, and make a fast exit. No talk of personal problems. Just laughs.
Ironically, Lohan might have set up that late night visit herself. Two weeks ago, in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, she ran into Fallon at a restaurant, and they shared an impromptu dinner with friends. Seems likely the pair could have cooked up the Late Night guest spot right then and there!
