The race is on to cast a young Elizabeth Taylor in Liz and Dick, Lifetime's upcoming biopic about the screen icon's famous romance with actor Richard Burton.
Last week, news broke that Lindsay Lohan was in talks to play the late Cleopatra star -- but now it seems the actress has some competition in the person of another buxom starlet: Megan Fox.
"I've been talking to Lindsay Lohan directly, and with her reps, and have been in conversations with other actresses, including Megan Fox," Larry Thompson, the executive producer of Liz and Dick, told E! News at the Weinstein Company Golden Globes after party.
Thompson was quick to add that this isn't a rare situation, as Hollywood productions often consider multiple options for a role before picking their star. "It's a very serious selection," Thompson added. "It's like casting for Hollywood royalty."
TMZ is reporting that Lohan is ready to sign on for the Taylor role right now. But a source tells E! News that while Lohan is still a front-runner, her probation status could prove "a complication" in nabbing the coveted part. Luckily, LiLo received glowing praise from the judge when she headed to court for a routine status update hearing Tuesday. And if she keeps up the good work, her probation should be over by the end of March.
But Lohan and Fox, who are both 25 and who played onscreen rivals in 2004's Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, may not be the only two actresses with their heart set on the Lifetime movie's lead.
According to E! News, Kate Winslet has long had a hankering to play Liz Taylor. Yet when asked backstage at Sunday's Golden Globes whether she was still interested in portraying the Oscar-winning screen siren, Winslet was nothing if not cagey. "I'm not going to go there, dude!" she replied.
So does that mean Kate's not going to play the role, or just not going to talk about playing the role? In other words: Just how nervous should Lohan and Fox be?
Thankfully, it doesn't sound like we'll have to wait long to find out who lands the part; Thompson said he plays to start shooting Liz and Dick in Canada as early as the spring.
