As I take a few minutes at the end of the day to enjoy the fruits of my labors, I realize there is much noise in my garden as twilight moves into darkness at day's end. Tonight, I believe I will listen to this noise, the music of my garden.
The breeze stirs the new leaves of the dahlias and brings the scent of the lavender wafting in the air. The breeze softly sounds the chimes, and the peace of day's end takes over my busy thoughts. Occasionally you will even hear the rustle of dry leaves as chipmunks move through the few small piles that are left in the edges of the garden.
Birds can be heard fluttering back to their nests, and the crickets are busy adding their movements to the symphony that makes my garden music this evening. I am reminded of Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (A Little Night Music), one of my favorite pieces of music, but I believe even Mozart would agree that the sounds of my garden at night are in a class all their own.
It has been a busy day in the garden, and much progress has being made each day. The recently planted dahlias are poking their heads through the ground, and there is much excitement in the prospect of the newest addition to my garden. Summer will be full of color. The vegetables are planting their roots farther into the ground, and new leaves appear almost daily. There will be plenty to can and freeze come fall.
Tomorrow is another day, and much will be accomplished and improved as the spring moves into summer.
