When I got in from work last night, my son was waiting for me at the back door by the garage. He told me he had some serious news to talk about. He took me by the hand and led me to his room where we sat on the bed.
Nathaniel began to tell me about the tragedies that started early yesterday morning. He told me about the bad men who had taken the planes and crashed them into the buildings full of people. He went on to tell me about the poor people on the planes, that they had died, even the babies. All of them died, he told me. Nathaniel began to cry as he finished his story and asked me why no one could save them. Where was Superman? I was hugging this little boy as I explained to him that there is no Superman. All we have is our God and our faith to help us make it through very hard times like this. We got down on our knees in that little bedroom and said the Lord's Prayer.
Yesterday was a very hard day for everyone. I still can't even imagine how something like this could happen. Today the sun came up just like it always does. It was beautiful. It means yesterday is over and we have a chance to start a new day knowing what could happen if we become complacent.
And in Plano, Texas there is a little boy who knows now, there is no Superman.
