The Lost Boys (1987, R)

Age Group: 13 and up.
Spook Factor: Before Twilight, there was this '80s teen horror-comedy about a family that moves to Santa Carla, Calif., only to discover that it's beset by vampires who roam the funky seaside town at night, many of them teenaged and led by a menacing Kiefer Sutherland. This occult Peter Pan-esque film has genuine scares and violent deaths, so it's important to watch it with your kids. If it gets too scary, there's no shame in pausing the DVD, getting a bevvie, and then restarting it once the tension has dissipated. Warning: Don't watch it in the dark after nightfall without wearing a garlic necklace!
