Lost may be coming to an end after this season, but Daniel Dae Kim intends to stay in Hawaii. Kim, who plays Jin on the hit series, will be costarring in ABC's reboot of Hawaii Five-O, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kim has been cast as detective Chin Ho Kelly, one of the five key characters on the show's elite Hawaiian police force. The rest of the cast has yet to be announced, but writers behind J.J. Abrams' Fringe will reportedly be involved.
The role of Kelly was played in the original series by Kam Fong Chun, a native Pacific Islander. Kelly may not have been the lead character (that would be Steve McGarrett, originally played by Jack Lord), but he had longevity, appearing in all 12 seasons until his character's death in the finale. If the new Hawaii Five-O has half the staying power of the original, Kim (who was born in South Korea and raised in Pennsylvania) and his family could be living on Oahu for years -- which is exactly what the actor wants.
"You can grow up here without a chip on your shoulder because you're never made to feel foreign," Kim once told Hawaii Magazine. "I want that for my kids, so I am planning to make a life here."
