Jin Talks: 8 Questions with Daniel Dae Kim of 'Lost'

The Lost star dishes on his character's future happiness and which Lost surprise will shock fans the most

As ABC's Lost wraps up its last season this month (the series finale airs May 23), diehard fans are beside themselves with anticipation, waiting to see how the mystifying show will come to an end. In the April 20 episode, viewers watched the emotional seaside reunion between Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) and his wife Sun (Yunjin Kim). iVillage asked Kim about that uplifting scene, the twists yet to come for his character and which Lost "reveal" will shock fans the most. And -- heavenly words for any Lost fan! -- we got answers!

Did you have any idea that love would be one of the keys to Lost?

That's a really good question, and initially, I did not. So much of the pilot episode seemed about the opposite of love and about a lot of negative things like fear and distrust. So to have my character's central driving force be love is really a nice surprise.

There are some serious tear-jerker scenes rumored to be coming up. Is Jin going to be a part of that?

That depends on how much you like Jin.

What was it like for you to film the Sun and Jin reunion scene?

It was pretty powerful. On the day we were shooting, we were discussing the fact that it had literally been years since these characters had seen each other. For Jin, actually, it had been decades, because he had gone back into the '70s. So when you look at it from that perspective and you know that both of these characters' primary motivating force is to be reunited with the other, there's no way it can't be powerful.

Will Sun and Jin have a happy ending?

I guess everyone's definition of happiness is different, so that's hard for me to answer. There will be happiness, for sure, and I think there will be -- like everything else on Lost -- a mixed bag of emotions.

Will Jin finally meet his daughter?

(Laughs) Wow, you are asking all the questions that I'm not supposed to answer! I don't know. That's something I'm not sure about.

But you filmed it already...

I know, but at the end of the series, ask me the same question and I'll have the same answer.

Which answer to one of the ongoing Lost questions will shock us the most?

What are the "flash sideways"? Let me just say that I was surprised, because I've been looking for that answer all season long.

Would you be in favor of a Lost movie in the future? Or do you like how the show ends?

I would say it would depend on a lot of different factors. I wouldn't rule it out, without reading a script or talking to people involved, but I think a lot of things would have to fall into place for it to happen.

You're the closest person there is to the character Jin. Were you surprised by how Jin's storyline on Lost wraps up? Is it what you wanted for him?

I think so. To be fair, I think that any conclusion for Jin would have been satisfying because the journey itself was so rewarding.
