Lacking motivation? How about cold, hard cash? Just as financial incentives have been linked to successful weight loss among dieters, smokers who are offered money to quit are more likely to stick it out, according to a recent study from the University of Pennsylvania.
After about a year, 15 percent of the participants who profited remained ex-smokers, compared to just 5 percent of those who weren’t paid. Only 4 to 7 percent of smokers quit successfully on any given year. Why not improve your chance by starting a cash contest with friends or coworkers?
