Low hCG levels and blighted ovum

I am six weeks pregnant. My hCG levels were taken four days apart, and were 101 to 154. Last week, I had an ultrasound and while the obstetrician could see a sac and fluid, he could not see a baby. Is there any chance that I could still be pregnant with levels this low?

Question:

HCG is made by the placenta, so it doesn't take a viable fetus to continue to have rising levels. Unfortunately, such a small rise in HCG over four days leaves little room for hope. It is probably a "blighted ovum," where the baby never really forms. Until you have a fall in hCG or no increase in hCG after another ultrasound, I wouldn't tell you it is impossible for there to be a viable pregnancy, but I believe that the chances are low.
