Luther Vandross, the soul singer whose music has influenced many a prom night, died on Friday at a New Jersey hospital. The singer-songwriter was just 54. Vandross suffered a stroke two years ago but had been about to relaunch his career. "Luther Vandross had a peaceful passing under the watchful eye of friends, family and the medical support team," said Rob Cavanaugh, a spokesman at JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey. Doctors said that he had never fully recovered from his stroke, although the exact cause of death wasn't released. His last album, Dance with My Father, was a huge hit and won four Grammys. Thanks for the music, Luther.
