Madonna: Being a Single Mother Is "Hard Work"

Madonna may be one of the biggest entertainers in the world, but at home she's just a mother of four trying to parent on her own.

Since her split with ex-husband Guy Ritchie in 2008, Madonna has had a difficult time juggling the demands of parenthood and career, she admits in a new interview with The Sun.

The singer, 53, confesses: "I'm not going to lie -- it's hard work having four kids and doing all the work I do."

The superstar singer turned filmmaker explains that her single "I Don't Give A" on her upcoming album MDNA details the struggles faced by single motherhood. "It's a challenge juggling everything -- multi-tasking is my middle name. I try to express that."

Mother to Lourdes, 15, Rocco, 12, David, 6, and Mercy, 5, Madonna also speaks candidly about her divorce from the English director. "Sometimes I cope with it very well," she said. "Sometimes it's a struggle."

Madonna hopes other women will relate to her lyrics and find her album's messages inspiring.

"I hope I'm a role model. I hope I give other girls a voice... someone to look up to and admire," Madonna said. "I keep rolling with the punches and trying to have integrity."
