Madonna Hits Roadblocks with Adoption
A lot of things come easily for Madonna, but this adoption isn't going to be one of them. Here's the latest…
The Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC), a grouping of 67 human rights NGOs in Malawi, tells People they're trying to stop Madonna's adoption. Their laws state that if someone wants to adopt, they have to stay with the child for 18 months. So they want Madge to move there for the year and a half.
The boy's father – who, to me, loves the limelight a little too much – gave another interview over the weekend. He says Madonna should have his son.
However, the father's cousin told the press that the little boy's father "is illiterate" and "doesn't understand a thing." She says that the family of the little boy thinks Madonna will raise him and bring him back later. They don't understand that they're giving up custody of him forever.
And an interesting fact: Just seven children have been adopted from Malawi by U.S. citizens in five years, according to State Department figures. That's because of their tough adoption process.
Meanwhile, Madge was back in London over the weekend to celebrate the 10th birthday of her daughter, Lourdes. I can't believe little Lola is 10!
