Sorry Janet Jackson, but Madonna is not going to be following in your footsteps during this year's Super Bowl halftime show. While there are sure to be some surprising moments during the Material Girl's performance, there is one thing we're very unlikely to see.
"For sure no nipples," Madonna told Jay Leno on Monday's Tonight Show, when he asked if NBC had laid out any ground rules her Feb. 5 Super Bowl halftime performance.
But, according to the Queen of Pop, a mid-game peek at her bare chest was never in the cards anyway. "I wasn't going to go there. I don't like to repeat myself, and I don't like to do what other people have done before me," Madonna said to laughter and applause. Watch the interview below!
All joking aside, Madonna did admit to Leno that she is battling some pre-show jitters. "I must say, it's the most nerve-wracking thing I've ever done," she said.
That's similar to what Madge shares with Anderson Cooper in an interview for his CNN talk show set to air Thursday. "Oh my god, I'm so nervous. You have no idea," she says. "First of all, it's the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is kind of like the holiest of holy in America. I'm going to come in halfway between the church experience and I'm going to have to deliver a sermon that's going to have to be very impactful."
Or, as she puts it a bit more succinctly: "I have to put on the greatest show on earth in the middle of the greatest show on earth."
That sounds like a pretty big burden to carry. But if there's anyone who can pull it off, it's Madonna -- no matter what Elton John says!
Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots kicks off Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. on NBC.
