Good news for Glee freaks who are also Madonna fans: her Madgesty has cleared the way for her songs to be used in FOX's Wednesday night hit. Bad news: they'll have to wait 'til next year to see the cast take on her hits.
Entertainment Weekly's Music Mix blog reports that Madonna has legally given her blessing for Glee to incorporate her music into an episode that will feature feature all-Madonna music.
It's a coup for the brand-new show, which has become one of the word-of-mouth favorites of the fall TV season (as of this writing, Glee is one of the top trending topics on Twitter, which is a good barometer of popularity).
So far Glee has had a remarkable power to bring its covers to the greater public consciousness: the cast's cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" has been a huge hit on YouTube, iTunes and radio stations. (The song also saw a resurgence a couple years ago thanks to another popular TV show: The Sopranos used "Don't Stop Believin'" in its series finale.)
No word yet on which songs will find their way onto the 2010 episode.
On the topic of other music coming to the Glee screen, there's been buzz that Adam Lambert may be slated to make a cameo on an upcoming episode of the musical-comedy hybrid. So far this season Josh Groban and Kristin Chenoweth have made memorable appearances.
