For Maggie Gyllenhaal, being married to fellow actor Peter Sarsgaard has its challenges. "What's difficult is traveling with a young child," the mom of 3-year-old daughter Ramona tells iVillage exclusively. "It sounds great, and we've gotten to go to all these interesting places. That's really amazing, but what a young child wants is to be home."
The upside of the traveling lifestyle of a two-actor household? Having a husband who can relate to her unpredictable lifestyle. "It's a weird job we have," says the 32-year-old star of Nanny McPhee Returns (in theaters Aug. 20). "And it really helps to have somebody who understands as your partner -- to have somebody who gets how incredibly exhausting it is."
Gyllenhaal also related to her character in the big-screen adaptation of the popular children's books. She plays a flailing mother at the end of her rope -- a feeling the actress knows all too well. "You will feel that way as a mother," she says. "There's no way to be perfect at it...That's something (costar Emma Thompson, who also wrote the screenplay) taught me, that the movie taught me, and that my daughter's taught me."
Watch our exclusive video interview to find out what else Gyllenhaal has learned about motherhood and why the actress has accepted that her husband might not always be home for the holidays.
