ABC; one, two, three... the building blocks of learning start with these simple concepts! But when it comes to teaching your tot the alphabet, don't just stick to the song. Check out these cute, creative ways to teach them the ABCs!
Flashcards. Mention the words "flash cards" and it's hard not to think of a type-A Tiger Mom drilling spelling words into her kid's head. But forget all that -- flash cards can be a fun way for your little learner to become familiar with the alphabet. We're charmed by this jumbo-sized set from Chronicle Books: A Raft of Otters: Collective Nouns Flash Cards From A to Z. Each card boasts a big, colorful letter on one side and the name of a group of animals (ex: a bale of turtles) on the flip side. That's two learning tools in one! ($20 at Chronicle Books)
Felt Alphabet Letters. TYour tot will love the cheery look of these soft, bright felt letters from Katiefish Designs -- and at 3 inches high, they're the perfect size for helping little hands put in order and even spell out basic words. ($25 for a set at Katiefish Designs)
Apps. There are loads of apps that can help your child learn her ABCs, but we're fond of Alphabet Jumbled from Little Learning Tots. With colorful graphics and a nautical theme, as well as five different ways to learn -- from simple alphabet recognition and flash cards for beginning learners to timed letter jumbles for older kids -- there's a lot here to keep them entertained. ($1.99 at Apple's iTunes store)
Printables. Alphabet-inspired printables abound online, but we're especially charmed by the highway-inspired letters. Car-loving kids can zoom and vroom their way through the alphabet thanks to these fun highway letter printables from Making Learning Fun. Each graphic black letter comes printed with white dashes to mimic the look of a road. Print out all 26 and encourage your tot to line them up in order -- and then take his favorite car on a road trip!
