Personalize a Fleece Blanket

Inexpensive polar fleece blankets can be made extra luxurious by trimming the sides with white cotton rope or white base tape that can be purchased at any sewing notions store. Even tassels sewn at each corner can add a touch of elegance to this casual fabric. Try to pick your fleece in softer shades of color like beige, taupe, peach and saffron yellow, powder blue, or pale pink for a sophisticated look.

If you can sew a straight seam, this is the project for you. If not, never fear. Just take it to your local dry cleaners to do the job for you. Get several of the blankets trimmed at the same time so you can bargain for a price at a “group rate.”

These “cashmere” fleece blankets also make great gifts when you personalize them. Just take the blanket to your local sports store where high school students get their varsity jackets personalized, and ask the store to embroider the initials in the middle. We like using a very curvy, elegant monogram in white to match the trim.
