Working Up to a Big Bed
"We moved our son from crib to bed at age 25 months. At first, we put a mattress on the floor and had him play on it for a week or so. Then we asked if he would like to sleep in it. He would sleep in it for an hour or so and then cry for his crib. Finally, we told him the crib had to go bye-bye, and he watched us take it down and pack it up. (We thought we'd get it back out if he seemed too traumatized by it). Once the crib was out of sight, it was out of mind."

"My son (who will be 2 in a couple of months) is still in his crib. Although we have no immediate plans of moving him to a bed, my husband and I bought him a set of bunk beds and plan to incorporate them into his room along with his crib so that he at least gets used to it being in his room. Then, when he's ready, we'll do the switch into a bed he's familiar with."

When Your Child Starts Wandering Out of the Big Bed
"A good friend of mine and I have kids who are the same age. When our older children started to get out of bed on their own she gave me this tip; put a gate in front of their door, two high if you need to. That way they can't roam the house. It worked so well for both of us that I plan on using it with my youngest when he gets his bed."
