As the nation gets ready to kick back and toast America's 234th birthday this weekend, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have another very important birth to celebrate.... eldest daughter Malia Obama, born 12 years ago!
Malia (who is three years older than little sister Sasha) was born on the 4th of July, a fitting date for a First Daughter (First Tween?) if there ever was one. And how fun to have fireworks on your birthday every year!
There's no word yet on how the First Family will celebrate Malia's big day, but if there's a theme, we suspect it might have something to do with Glee (after the cast gave a White House performace on Easter, maybe they could swing by again for a chorus of "Happy Birthday"?) or the Jonas Brothers or High School Musical (which both First Daughters are reportedly rather fond of!)
Being 11 amounted to a pretty good year for Malia, who not only met the stars of Glee, but has had a great summer on her soccer team, and took in the live musical Mary Poppins alongside her mom and sis. But with powerful, popular parents and the angsty years of adolescence not yet underway, we'll bet 12 will have fun things in store, too.
