Marbleized Paper

You will need:

• Corrugated cardboard toothpicks
• Green and red acrylic paint
• Tub of water
• Small bowls
• Liquid laundry starch
• Jelly-roll pan
• Eyedropper (optional)
• Waxed paper

Poke the toothpicks one-quarter-inch apart into the long side of a two- by four-inch piece of corrugated cardboard to make a marbling tool. Pour the paint colors into small bowls, and dilute each color with two parts water to one part paint. Stir. Pour enough liquid laundry starch into a jelly-roll pan to cover the bottom of the pan with half an inch of starch. Drip dots of paint onto the starch (use an eyedropper, if desired). Gently swirl paint into the starch with your marbling tool. Quickly place a sheet of paper across the top of the liquid. Let the paper set for 20 seconds, then lift and immediately dip it into a tub of water for a few seconds to rinse off the starch. Allow to dry face-up on waxed paper.
