It's almost that time of year again - March Madness and the NCAA basketball tournament. This year's tourney kicks off on March 17 at the University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio, and to get in the mood for three weeks of fast-paced hoops fun, I've been perusing Genius Products' NCAA March Madness: The Greatest Moments of the NCAA Tournament.
The DVD features highlights from 70 years of NCAA championship games, including moments featuring future NBA legends Bill Walton and Isiah Thomas; the rivalry between the Boston Celtics' legend Larry Bird and L.A. Lakers' Magic Johnson, which began when the two were rival NCAA players in 1979 at Indiana State and Michigan State; Dwayne Wade's 2003 triple-double for Marquette; and North Carolina freshman Michael Jordan's game-winning shot to lead his Tar Heels to the championship vs. Georgetown, with just 18 seconds remaining in the game.
The disc also features an interview with legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, who was at the helm during one of my fave college hoops moments, Christian Laettner's incredible game-winning turnaround jump shot (in overtime!) during the semi-final round of the 1992 tournament. Laettner and the Blue Devils beat Kentucky in that game (called the greatest college basketball game ever by Sports Illustrated), and went on to beat Michigan in the final game to win their second consecutive NCAA championship.
Hot to watch, hot gift, too. I'm just sayin' ...
