Margaret Thatcher Dies at Age 87

The former prime minister of Britain passed away on April 8

Britain's first female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, died on April 8 at age 87.

Her spokesman Lord Bell announced the news: "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning. A further statement will be made later."

A conservative politician, Lady Thatcher served as prime minister from 1979 to 1990. She was famously portrayed by Meryl Streep in the 2011 film The Iron Lady, for which Streep won the Academy Award.
