Maria Menounos Makes Over Your Closet

When it comes to deciding whether to buy high-end clothing versus lower-end, today is perhaps the best time ever to err on the lower side. There are just too many amazing options on the “lower end” not to do so. I put “lower end” in quotes because it’s almost difficult to apply that label to most of the amazing and affordable garments that are out there today. In addition, in this Facebook era where everyone posts pictures from every event and party attended, most women hate being seen in the same outfit at a different event. The price of lower-end fashion allows you to have so many options to avoid this.

If you’re a businesswoman and need to dress up in suits, you may opt to take it a notch higher and buy higher-end clothing. You’re investing in yourself and presentation matters. However, you can still find great, quality clothing that is somewhere in the middle (especially during sales) from Theory, Banana Republic or New York & Company. If you’re a college girl just starting out in the work world, you will want to buy classic pieces from these places when you can afford them. In the meantime, you can do fill-ins from less pricey places like Express and H&M.

I happen to think H&M is one of the most incredible places to shop. You can find all of your trendy, cute, sexy, fun stuff for cheap and look like you’re wearing something expensive. My publicist lives at H&M and he dresses impeccably. You would never know he wasn’t wearing Armani! Last Christmas, I went to H&M, and found these cute moccasins for $19. Mocs are trendy and will only be in for one season -- two at the most. That’s why I don’t want to invest in them, which makes H&M one of the perfect places to get what you need. It’s all in how you wear it. Forever 21, Gap and Express also have amazing and cute outfits and accessories.

And don’t rule out stores like Target, either, because high-end designers sure aren’t these days. So many brilliantly talented designers have partnered with stores like Target, Walmart and Kohls to bring you the greatest design looks for less. I have some gorgeous jewelry pieces in my closet from Vera Wang’s Simply Vera collection for Kohl’s. I get tons of compliments on them and they are affordable! Nowadays fashion is affordable and trendy. Back in the day you wouldn’t catch a star dead wearing Target but today they boast about it. Being frugal and fashionable is cool -- even for celebrities!

And always, mix and match high-end and low-end clothing and accessories when possible.
