After Mariah Carey famously rambled her way through a tipsy acceptance speech at the Palm Springs International Film Festival (where she was honored for her breakthrough performance in Precious), the new video for her single "Up Out My Face" is further proof that Mimi just wants to play.
Directed by husband Nick Cannon, Carey, 40, in bodacious Barbie mode, preens alongside 25-year-old rapper Nicki Minaj. Cannon also appears in a cameo as a drum major -- a reference to his star-making role in 2002's Drumline. Have a look here:
Unlike many of the hits that made Carey famous, Mimi seems content on the "Up Out My Face" track to croon the infectious tune with a breathy delivery that's all about flirty fun. (The earnest, ballad-singing Mariah Carey of yore isn't on vacation altogether: her other new video, also directed by Cannon, is for the tearjerker Ne-Yo duet "Angel Cry")
Could it be that Carey likes being coaxed by Cannon -- who at 29 is more than a decade younger than his superstar wife -- to play the good-time girl? While promoting her album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, the singer recently explained the public image she's projecting lately: “A lot of my fans have said they want me to be able to show my personality more and for a while I was not really inspired by what I was doing. So when I was working on this album I was just really inspired... When I perform it’s just fun for me.”
