The Osmond family was struck by tragedy on Friday night when Marie Osmond’s 18-year-old son Michael Blosil leapt to his death from a Los Angeles building. The death was officially ruled a suicide on Sunday.
Blosil, one of Osmond’s eight children, was a Fashion Institute of Design student with a history of severe depression. He was checked into rehab in 2007 at age 16, at which time Osmond told the press: “My son Michael is an amazing young man, shown through his courage in facing his issues.” After going through rehab, Blosil was reportedly getting his life back on track; his mother told People Magazine last March that "I couldn't be more proud of him. He's got a 3.9 GPA in high school. He's looking at scholarships to some wonderful colleges."
Shortly before Blosil jumped from a 15-story building, TMZ reports that his friends found a suicide note, reportedly describing how profoundly unhappy he was. The note listed “things he would be doing for the very last time” and said that he felt he only had one friend in L.A.
Marie Osmond -- who starred on The Donny & Marie Show (1976-81) with her brother Donny -- was a Dancing with the Stars finalist in 2007. She issued a plea for privacy on Saturday, saying: "My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time.” Osmond opened up about her struggle with postpartum depression in her 2001 memoir Behind the Smile.
Donny Osmond, who was scheduled to perform with his sister in Las Vegas this weekend, is asking for prayers for his sister’s family.
