Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni pull off no small feat every week: Playing caring detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler, who manage to maintain their humanity (and sanity!) when, every day, their job is to deal with some of the most heartbreaking, brutal crimes in New York City. As members of the Special Victims Unit, Benson and Stabler investigate sex-related crimes, which is of special importance to Benson, who herself is the product of a rape. Hargitay has won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role -- but it's the friendship-partnership chemistry between Benson and Stabler that continues to make the series so compelling after 11 seasons.
