One note: don't watch this movie in public. I made the mistake of watching Marley & Me while at work, and found myself crying at my desk. It gets quite emotional!
Tears aside, I really liked Marley & Me. It might have been because I grew up with three yellow labs (shout out to Emma, Hunter and Sophie), but it was also just a sweet story of an evolving family and their relationship with their pup, Marley.
In addition to the movie itself, I really got a kick out of the DVD's special features. The "Finding Marley" featurette was probably the most interesting. Over 22 dogs were used to play Marley throughout the film. In fact, some of the dogs needed makeup in order to look more alike. One dog, whose nose was more pink, had to wear black makeup in order to match the other dogs. And, because Marley is one rambunctious pup, they put the "actor dogs" through anti-training. They were actually encouraged to jump up and destroy things!
There are also extensive interviews with the cast (including Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston), a hilarious gag reel (which isn't only about the actors - there's also adorable footage of the dogs, like when one little puppy just can't make it through the doggie door), deleted scenes and more.
I highly recommend picking up the Marley & Me DVD. You will absolutely fall in love. -- Jacki Garfinkel
