How I Met Your Mother is about to get a whole lot funnier. Neil Patrick Harris' hit sitcom will be welcoming the hilarious Martin Short into its cast when the show returns this fall.

Short, 61, will play Marshall's (Jason Segel) new boss at an environmental law firm in a recurring role for the show's sixth season. In the last episode of season 5, Dave Foley played the head of the firm that Marshall was interviewing with, but, because Foley's How to Be a Gentleman was picked up by CBS, Short is stepping in. It is unclear if the role is being recast or if he will play a brand new character.

This will be Short's first extended comedy since his appearance on Comedy Central's series Primetime Glick. The actor sadly lost his wife of 30 years, Nancy Dolman, last August, when she lost her battle with cancer.
