Martin Short has been making headlines since his live interview with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb on the Today show Wednesday. But it isn't his new film, Madagascar 3, that's attracting attention. Instead, it's the fact that Gifford mistakenly asked Short about his "great marriage" with wife Nancy -- who actually passed away from ovarian cancer in 2010.
When the misinformed host asked Short, 62, how long he and his wife have been married, he didn't correct her error. He just graciously (and awkwardly) replied, "Married 36 years."
Gifford later apologized for her cringe-worthy mistake -- but Short wants her to know that he has no hard feelings.
"Kathie is a fabulous, fabulous person," the actor tells iVillage exclusively. "She really is very sweet, and she just didn't have all the information. It was tricky, but it was handled well."
We're guessing Gifford will do a little more research before her next interview!
