Considering the fact the Olsen twins have been out of the Hollywood game for a while now, it's not too surprising that the 25-year-old duo has announced that they're done with acting. In the April issue of Elle UK Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen share that they're done with the stress of living in front of the camera.
"I don't have to be a pretty face. I've done that, but now it's important and liberating to be on the other side of the lens. I don't like to be the center of attention anymore," says Ashley, whose last onscreen appearance was in 2004's New York Minute.
"It doesn't mean I'm not interested in Hollywood," she clarifies. "I like the way it operates, I like the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever get back in, it's not going to be as an actress."
Mary-Kate has given her acting career a more of a shot than her sister has, but even she admits that she's done with it. Despite a brief stint on Weeds in 2007 and a role in the 2011 box-office dud Beastly, she admits to the magazine that it "just felt right to move away (from acting)."
So what's next for the twins, who famously got their showbiz start at the ripe young age of 9 months when they were cast in the TV sitcom Full House? Well, they've already forged a super successful fashion empire with their Elizabeth & James and The Row clothing lines. In addition, they'd like to open their own retail store, launch a fragrance line and start designing furniture.
Just don't expect the two sisters to ever go their separate ways. Even though they've often been seen solo in recent years, Mary-Kate and Ashley insist they'll always be a team.
"Nothing would ever split us up," Mary-Kate says. "Separate side projects are one thing, but we work better as a team."
Fortunately, there's another Olsen to fill the acting void. The twins' younger sister Elizabeth Olsen, 23, made a huge splash on the Hollywood scene at Sundance in 2011. Her critically acclaimed indies Martha Marcy May Marlene and Silent House (in theaters Friday) earned her plenty of accolades and even some Oscar buzz. Up next, she'll be starring in an array of films, including the thriller Kill Your Darlings opposite Daniel Radcliffe.
