Matilda Ledger, daughter of Michelle Williams and the late, Oscar-winning actor Heath Ledger, turns 5 today.
Ledger, who passed away at the age of 28 in 2008, met Williams, 30, on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2004, and they had their darling daughter one year later. The pair split amicably in 2007. "They have a beautiful daughter and they are both committed to being great parents," a source said after their breakup.
People reported that before his tragic passing he and his daughter sweetly left their imprints on a street in their Brooklyn neighborhood. Five-year-old Matilda now carries on his memory.
In the wake of his death, a mourning Williams released a statement about their darling daughter. "She's the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father," she said. "All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day."
She went on to say: "His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up in the best memories of him."
Williams and little Matilda still reside in Brooklyn (and are often spotted out and about in their neighborhood) -- and she even accompanies her mom on movie sets. (The two were strolling through Toronto this summer where Williams was filming Take This Waltz.)
